We believe video is the most exciting medium going today. Browse Vimeo or (certain parts of) YouTube. Turn on your television — or more likely, watch whatever you want on demand. Watch a big-budget feature, an impassioned indie doc, an eyepopping commercial, or a purely experimental film. So. Much. Talent.
The video revolution is still happening. Cameras and equipment got insanely good and insanely affordable — with more to come. Hobbyists are challenging professionals in cinematography, editing, and visual effects.
Once the domain of the television and motion picture industries, storyboarding and video editing are becoming core skills for digital designers who want to create engaging web sites and digital content — because there are few things more engaging than a good story told through video.
And yet, stock footage is mostly the same-old same-old. Companies boast about having millions of clips, though many of them are standard definition, with dated techniques and subject matter. Sites are mere vending machines, lacking context or inspiration. On top of that, licensing costs are expensive and unpredictable. (“Call for pricing”? Ain’t nobody got time for that.)
At Dissolve, we’re looking to change the perception of stock footage, with licensable clips that are beautifully shot, technically amazing, and affordable — so you won’t have to waste time searching through clips that are unusable, subpar, or simply too expensive.
Our clips are priced by quality and freshness, not by resolution. You always get the highest-resolution file available, even at the $5 level.
We’re just getting started, building an international community of contributors shooting exciting, useful stuff, as they follow their own creative muses, work for commercial and editorial clients, or simply capture what’s around them.
